The Silverchair Platform

The Silverchair Platform

Silverchair's mission is to integrate and deliver scholarly content of all kinds to students, researchers, and scientists across the globe. Their operations consist of creating large, content-serving websites for journals, societies, and publishers with ease of use and discoverability in mind. Their client-side toolset consisted of SiteMaster, an aging backend interface for site customization, and Zipline, a tool to upload content packages. With content types spanning articles, books, video, and custom formats numbering in the thousands (or more) per site, a robust suite of tools was paramount for client satisfaction and effectiveness. Our team was tasked with expanding Silverchair's client-side toolset, empowering them to control more of their site settings and content. The overarching goal aligned with our organization's shift in marketplace offering at the time; creating a unified platform that balances customization with cost efficiency in new site builds. Below is a brief overview of the end-to-end Product Design of the Silverchair Platform starting with backend tools and front-end results. Highlights Created design system for all Silverchair's backend tools moving forward.Redesigned complex content loading & spec-checking products to upload 1000's of pieces of content en-masse.Designed two new products that opened up Silverchair's users to scale their websites at will.Created & maintained a design system for the front-end webpages' default output of above tools.

MIT Press Direct

MIT Press Direct

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press (MITP) is a leading publisher of books and journals at the intersection of science, technology, and the arts. Known for iconic design, rigorous scholarship, and creative technology, MITP publishes more than 200 new books a year and close to 40 journals. MITP was looking for a way to quickly integrate with The Silverchair Platform to launch their Books portion of their content within a tight turnaround. I assisted with the UX Design portion of integrating MIT's strict identity to MIT Press Direct hosting 3,000 books.

SCORE Responsive Redesign

SCORE Responsive Redesign

The SCORE® Portal is an innovative, nonprofit initiative to provide residents and residency programs with high-quality educational materials and a structured program for self-learning in all areas of general surgery and related specialties. The content of the portal is aligned with the SCORE Curriculum Outline, a list of topics to be covered in a five-year general surgery residency. The portal houses a variety of content, including modules, videos, self-assessment questions, and book chapters. In 2016, SCORE asked Silverchair and I to help develop a plan to modernize the SCORE portal, which had been hosted on Silverchair’s platform since 2013.
